So this happened while I was watching "Tron: Legacy" today...
You think that the film jamming and then burning up only happens to people on TV or in movies! Ha! So it took a half-hour for them to resume the film at approximately where it left off, and everyone (maybe 10 or so in all) got a free pass to another movie.
Anyway, I've got a few other things on my mind...
First of all, I've got another rule for Twitter users, or maybe one I've mentioned before that needs to be re-emphasized. When these idiotic memes hit the Trending Topics, such as the one tonight, #lessambitiousmovies (examples of less ambitious movies would include
60% Gray Swan and Breakfast at Kay Jewelers -- you get the idea), you get to post no more than five. I don't need or want to see dozens and dozens of these things. Stop, people. Just stop.
A music update: Remember how I bought only nine albums released in 2010? Let's welcome number 10, "Flamingo" from Brandon Flowers, lead singer of the Killers. (See picture. I kinda wish I saw him in concert when he was here in November.) I also bought "Only By The Night" by Kings of Leon, featuring "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody." They need a smack in the face for making the lyrics in the CD liner notes unreadable: white background and just slightly off-white text. Idiots. That's okay, because these were used CDs on sale for $5.00 each.
They really want my money: the new SugarHouse casino (first inside the city limits) is offering free shuttle service -- not sure if they're buses or vans -- not only from pickup points in Center City and South Philly, but the Northeast as well. They sent me a postcard with their Northeast schedule. If I had money to gamble, it would be faster for me to hitch a ride from Roosevelt Blvd. and Rhawn St. or Welsh Rd. than take SEPTA all the way in. And if their casino were only right in downtown instead of on the Delaware River waterfront some blocks north of Market Street, I'd use it instead of the El and skip the gambling entirely. I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate that but what they don't know won't hurt them.
Not better Leight than never: The Flyers put goalie Michael Leighton on waivers. He saved their season twice last year when both Ray Emery and Brian Boucher got hurt -- once during the regular season and again during the Stanley Cup playoffs, where he returned from an injury of his own to carry the team into the finals. He signed a new 2-year contract, then missed all of this season until recently due to a back issue, and Boucher and rookie Sergei Bobrovsky have played too well. Leighton got one game and wasn't that great. He's still around for now, though, since no team claimed him from the waiver wire so he'll go to the minor leagues. Kinda feel bad for him but I always felt he was a flash-in-the-pan.
One more sports item: I'll try and post some thoughts about the Eagles before the weekend, so I leave you with something to ponder. I don't know if this is just another symbol of how amazing it's been to be a Philly sports fan in recent times, or if this is a very bad thing for this particular team -- but if the NBA season ended today, the 76ers, as the 8th seed, would be in the playoffs.
