Facebook Ad FAIL

I've noticed an increasing amount of advertising and pseudo-advertising on my Facebook news feed lately. There are obvious ads, of course, but there are also other posts -- "promoted" articles, "sponsored" posts, etc., all based on your "Likes" and those of your friends. For example, there could be a post saying "John Smith likes Wal-Mart" followed by a post from Wal-Mart's Facebook page. Here's another example, which just appeared at the top of my feed:

Just because I "Like" Jody Watley's page doesn't mean I want to like the page for her old group.

Sometimes, though, these auto-generated posts are wayyyyyyyyyyyy off-base. Here's a recent example: I "Like" the FB page for singer Will Young...

Based on this, here's what Facebook generated:

Ummmm...what?

I keep saying I hate Facebook more and more. I have too many friends (real-life friends as well as  Facebook "friends") who aren't on Twitter, though, so I'm stuck.

SERIOUSLY, Facebook?

SERIOUSLY?

I hate Facebook more and more. Seriously.

Raising Hell On Facebook

Maybe it's me, but there are times when I think that most people are idiots. This is one of those times.

The first time I logged into Facebook today was from my cell phone while I was out. The screen said I had a message from someone whose name did not ring a bell. When I clicked to read it, I saw a list of message recipients that seemed endless. It's bad enough on a regular monitor (see screen captures after the jump), let alone this list, one name at a time, on my cell phone's small rectangular screen.

When I finally got down to the bottom, there were a series of replies -- on Facebook, you see all the replies to a message because you can't just reply to one person on the list. You have to reply to them all. The message originated, as it turned out, from the Phoenix Hellraisers flag football team, promoting...something. I've forgotten what. Whoever runs the team's Facebook sent it to every one of their FB friends, including me. (I know people who either are or were part of the team.) Right now they have 2,208 friends. A few minutes ago it was 2,210. I also unfriended them earlier in the evening.

Unfortunately, the replies keep coming. The "conversation" has gone basically like this from almost the beginning, and similar replies (including some duplicates) just keep coming...

Remove me too!

Remove me from this, please! Thank you...

Remove me as well

Omg. I have kept quiet all day, but enough is enough. Faggots!!!! Shut the f--- up!!!!!

Lol

The only way to make it is to stop replying... so STOP REPLYING!

So stop!!! Dyke!!

Stop

STOP!

STOP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is this

And on and on and on...

You can delete it from your list of messages, but it just keeps coming back whenever another person replies. I'm not sure if the original sender can delete it (which would stop any further replies) or not. You can report it as spam, for what good that would do.

It amazes me that someone would be stupid enough to rile up all of their friends this way. I rarely send messages through Facebook. If I do, it's only because it's to one friend, or a few, and it doesn't need to be broadcast on my Wall. Then again, I'm not an idiot. (Well, not usually.)

Oh, HELL No, Facebook!!!

Never, Facebook! Never in a bazillion years! I don't care about the three friends of mine who like Palin or the anonymous ninnies who like Brewer.

I have no idea why, but this is turning out to be Facebook Day here on the blog.

Facebook's Important Discovery

Breaking news!!!!

I'm astounded! Is this actually true? You can like both music and sports? I can't believe it! Do you realize how much my life would have been changed if I learned this when I was younger? How have I lived the last 48 years without knowing this stunning information??????

Facebook STILL Sucks

This is what it looks like when I go to Facebook's website right now:

It's been like this for over two hours. No matter what I try -- refresh, log out and log back in, clear the cache, etc., this is how it displays. I even tried using Internet Explorer instead of my usual Firefox. It all looks like this, rendering Facebook unreadable.

Facebook SUCKS!!!!!

I repeat: Facebook sucks. In recent weeks, using Facebook has been increasingly irritating. Weird problems are constantly occurring. You try and reply to something and get an error message. You try posting a status update and get an error message. Today, I'm getting one page of updates on my news feed but there's no link to view the older posts. Or I get "there are no updates on your news feed." If I click on my profile, I get a message that the link doesn't work.

Not only are these problems occurring almost every day, there seems to be no easy way to contact them to complain. There are all kinds of "help" topics and such, but not one simple "contact Facebook" link. I don't want to have to wade through page after page of crap to find a link about a specific problem when there are MULTIPLE problems.

Facebook is getting more and more useless. Is anyone even in charge of Facebook? Does anyone run it? Is anyone actually employed by Facebook to keep it running? Anyone?
