My Week In Comics 10-20-10

A little overloaded just about all month, thanks to various one-shots and specials These 7, plus 5 more I bought today that I'll talk about in a future post.

Supergirl 57: The conclusion of Supergirl's trip to end the alien attack on Bizarro World. Supergirl continues to grow and evolve as a character, and some of that growth shows here when she has to inspire her Bizarro counterpart.

Superman/Batman 77: Supergirl's in this one, too. No Superman or Batman, though. A mass grave's been discovered in Metropolis and Supergirl needs help from the world's greatest detective to find the killer. But there's no Batman around, and she settles for Robin. Kara and Damien clash in a humorous way, and it's a Halloween issue as well. Speaking of which...

DC Universe Halloween Special 2010 1 (of 1): ...just like the Simpsons' annual Treehouse of Horror, the DC yearly set of "scary" tales arrives. There are six stories. The first and best one is actually a sequel to a tale from last year's collection.

Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Catwoman 1 (of 1)
Bruce Wayne: The Road Home: Commissioner Gordon 1 (of 1): Two more of these one-shot specials featuring the newly-returned Bruce Wayne (although these are the only books in which he's actually back, as I discussed last week). The focus now is a new target for assassination: reporter Vicki Vale, who's been trying to put together a bombshell story revealing Batman's identity. These have been actually more interesting than I expected, although it would still help if the books that actually explain Bruce's return hadn't been delayed. I might go back and pick up a couple from the first week that I initially skipped.

Batman Beyond 5 (of 6): I was disappointed by the reveal (in the last issue) of the identity of the new "Hush." Naturally, in this book there's a revelation that trumps it. While it doesn't totally make sense, at least the new "Hush" isn't exactly who he appeared to be. There's going to be an ongoing series after this miniseries concludes, but I don't plan on buying it. The Gotham of the future is a nice place to visit, but...

Simpsons Comics 171: Another of those issues featuring a trilogy of spoofs, this time a spoof of classsic children's books -- or in this case, audiobooks that Marge bought "by the pound at the monthly Springfield Library going-out-of-business sale."
