My iTunes Shuffle Baker's Dozen 9-16-09

This shuffle continues to perturb me with its repeats. Two important questions: one, why did two songs from the same Will Smith album play back-to-back, and two, why do I own this Will Smith album?

A Dream's A Dream-Soul II Soul
Jack U Off-Prince
Let's Go Out Tonight-Craig Armstrong feat. Paul Buchanan
Fire-The Pointer Sisters
What's New Pussycat?-Tom Jones
French Kiss (Original Underground Mix)-Lil' Louis
Gettin' Jiggy With It-Will Smith
Big Willie Style-Will Smith
Little Sister-Elvis Presley
I Like To Score-Moby
I'm Going Bananas-Madonna
Do You Remember-Jill Scott
Same Thing In Reverse (Kamikaze Full Popswish Mix)

  1. Hi Joe, how ya been? I have my iPod on random here at work - my last ten:

La Vie En Rose - Grace Jones
Goodbye Blue Sky - Pink Floyd
The Righteous Path - Drive-By Truckers
Whose Side Are You On - Bette Midler
    Great Southern Land - Icehouse
    Lucky Man - The Verve
    The Core - Eric Clapton
A Bag of Weed - Family Guy
    Laundry Baskets - Aqueduct
Don't Forget to Dance - The Kinks

How many songs to you have on the playlist? If it's less than 100 maybe that's why the same album came up back to back.

Can't help you on the Will Smith question, though. I'm embarrassed by lots of music in my iTunes - a lot of music I liked as a kid but would never play unless I'm alone (Technotronic???)...

  2. I wasn't listening to a playlist, but my whole iTunes library of 9351 tracks (including Christmas songs, which are unselected because I don't want them on my iPod except during the holiday season, so they aren't playing). That makes the repeat issue even more annoying.

I'm more confused than embarrassed by the Will Smith songs. I added the whole CD to iTunes when I probably should've just added the one or two hit songs I liked -- and for that matter, "Gettin' Jiggy With It" hasn't stood the test of time.

  3. Only 9351? Lightweight. 17,536 and counting here, although there are some classical tracks neither I nor Shazam can identify....don'tcha love the Internet? Songs I forgot all about but hear randomly throughout the day are just a download away ("Dancing in the Moonlight" I just added)...the www is like the best invention ever - thank you, Al Gore! :)

I don't have many Christmas songs (being an athiest, I try not to be a hypocrite), but can I enjoy Bob Rivers in peace?

I also upload entire albums with one good song - why not? I like "Breakfast at Tiffany's" but the rest of the songs on that album are total shite. But you never know when total shite will be relevant. It's like when I worked in a record store in college, getting scads of promos - most of them have been lost/forgotten, but sometimes there's a gem. I had Jagged Little Pill when everyone was like, Alanis who?

And speaking of teenage embarrassments, I wonder if Vanilla Ice's live album is out there somewhere...

  4. I don't know that I still have your phone/email so send it to me just in case. Flyers tickets are out of my budget range right now, sadly, but if fate ever delivers me some freebies or really cheap ones...

I buy fewer CDs lately for various reasons. I'm more likely to download individual songs...and sometimes even pay for them. ;-)
